Ellen W. Randolph (Coolidge) to Virginia J. Randolph (Trist)
My Dear Virginia | Monticello Oct 30 [1814] |
We have not been able to write to you hitherto, because we did not know how to direct our letters, but now that you have sent us word, I promise you shall hear from us often. Give my love to Sister Ann & tell her that Mrs Wells & Mrs Garrett have both had fine sons since she left the neighbourhood and are doing well It is reported that Mr Gordon has bought Col. Jackson Nicholas’s house near Charlottesville and is coming to live in it, in which case he will be one of our nearest neighbours; It is also said that Francis Gilmer is going to be married to Maria Lindsay. Doctor Philip Thornton called on us the other day on his way to Wythe County, he says that Papa is talked of for the next Governor, and it is generally thought that if he will accept of the office, he will certainly be elected. Adieu my dear Virginia I will write to both Sister Ann & yourself shortly, kiss little John and Ellen for me and believe me to be
Mama says she will write to you by the next post
