John Wayles Eppes to Francis Eppes

Dear Francis

I have been so much occupied in the election that I have not had an opportunity of writing to you for some time in consequence of being from home on Tues day the post day—all the elections taking place on Mon day—Randolph has gained the election by 91. 61. votes—It has been produced in part by change in consequence of the Taxes but principally by the negligence of my friends at Buckingham who lulled into false security in consequence of the vote in Charlotte and considering my election safe neglected to turn out—

We have sent by the stage today a part your clothes—2 new pair of new pantaloons and your old summer clothes of last year—The balance of the new ones will be sent up a soon as an opportunity they are finished which your Mama desires me to say will be in a short time—

your affectionate father
