George Evans to Thomas Mann Randolph
Dr Sir | Oakland Chesterfd County September 22d 1813 |
The feelings of a father for a beloved Son, urges me to address you in his behalf—You have the Command of the 20th Infantry in which Regt my Son George Evans holds the rank of a lieutenant, he is very young, of an ardent Temper & may often want the Councel & advice of more experiend Years—
We are nearly strangers, having seldom met in the intercourse of social life, yet from an acquaintence with your family & fi friends, I am not ignorant of your many virtues & benevolent temper, permit me therefore as a friend to solicit your Guardianship & Protection of my Son that, as his superior you direct his movements as a Soldier, that, so as his superior in Experience & Improvment you will please to advise & direct him should he at any time shew a Disposition to Error or Excess & you will in addition to the grateful Thanks of his Father receive those of a fond Mother & tender Relatives—Wishing you uninterupted health & a happy Agency in securing the violated Rights of our Country, I am with great respect your friend
