Francis W. Gilmer to William Wirt

Dear Mr Wirt.

I thank you for your letter inclosing two others. I should have written to you earlier but have not even yet been to Albemarle, nor seen Mr Jefn. I am however resolved on continuing at the bar: and shall open the debate on the 20th Jany. if my health permit. I am recovering my strength, slowly to be sure, but safely I hope, & the Doctors tell me I shall have more vigorous health than ever, our friend Mrs Rs accounts of my consumption, to the contrary notwithstanding.

The weather is so doubtful that I shall not go to Albemarle ’till I get stronger. The second night after I got home, my servant contrived to let me lie the whole night with the window immediately at my side up. It has given me a cold but very slight.

I shall write you hereafter more at large.

God bless you & all your house

yours affectionately
F. W. Gilmer

PS please [. . .] to have the inclosed dropped into the P. office, with your first letters.
