Lyman Peck and Malcolm F. Crawford: Contract for Carpentry Work at the University of Virginia
The following articles of agreement are hereby entered into by Arthur S Brockenbrough Proctor of the University of Virginia on the one part, and Liman Peck & Malcolm Crawford on the other part— Witnesseth that the said Peck & Crawford hath agreed to undertake the carpenters & joiners work of the range of dormitories on the Western street, say about twenty five in number—the said dormitories to be finished in a similar manner to the dormitories on the Eastern street the work to be as faithfully done as any other range of dormitories now erected at the University Va and agreeable to the forms & order of architecture, under the penalty of having it taken down and again put up at their expence, if not done in the manner before discribed—The said Peck & Crawford is to be furnished with the materials for the said work, of which they are to take proper care and suffer no waste of lumber or other articles—no lumber to be engaged without consulting the Proctor—
The said Proctor agrees to pay to the said Peck & Crawford the sum of one hundred dollars per dormitory in the following manner for said work—Viz One hundred dollars per month, the balance when the work is completed—the said Peck & Crawford are to make every exertion to get the buildings covered in by Christmas, the Proctor agrees to let them have the use of two Dormitories & the shop while engaged in the aforesaid work—Witness our hands & t seals this 10ht day of August one thousand eight hundred & twenty one—
