Edward Lowber to Arthur S. Brockenbrough

My dear sir,

your favor of the 6th inst. by Mr McAlister one of the Painters, was duly recd & to which I reply. I have repeatedly requested the young men to hand you an acct of the Painting & glazing; but why they have not done so is unaccountable. The amount of glazing can readily be ascertained, & I should suppose an estimate of the Painting, not deviating much from correctness, could as easily be made. The agreement as I have understood it, is, to pay for half the materials on the premises unworked & the amount of glazing & Painting done. what materials are now on the premises I cannot say & therefore shall be unable to give the information desired. The total amount of materials delivered at the university exceeds $2500; so that as yet we have recd nothing for the work executed. There has been sent exceeding $1500 in glass alone. I am informed the Painters will require an additional supply of colours in a short time; but I do trust before that you will be able to send me on 8 or 1000 dollars. Unless the undertaking turns out a losing business, there can be no danger of overpaying, if $2000 be remitted. I am, Sir your

obedt servant. very respectfully
