General Order by Thomas Mann Randolph to Virginia Militia

To the Malitia and the Public Guards of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

(Richmond March 28th 1821)

(General Orders)

A vacancy in the Office Of Adjutant General Caused by the resignation of Col Gooch having been found to be existing during the recess of the Legislature; I have thought as I may lawfully do, with the advice of Council to fill such vacancy and have according issued a Commission to Col. Bernard Peyton who will henceforward act and must be regarded as Adjutant General, Quarter Master General and Commissary General of Ordinance for this Commonwealth, until the end of the next Session of the General Assembly, unless another appointment to that Office should be previously made by the Legislature
