George the Third &c. To all &c. Know ye that for divers good Causes & Considerations but more especially for and in Consideration of the sum of Forty Shillings of Good and Lawful Money for our use paid to our Receiver General of our Revenues in this our Colony and Dominion of Virginia We have Given Granted and Confirmed and by these Presents for us our Heirs and Successors Do Give Grant and Confirm unto Thomas Jefferson one certain Tract or Parcel of Land Containing three hundred and sixty four Acres lying and being in the County of Amherst on both sides of Tye River including the forks or mouths of Cox’s and Elk Creeks and Bounded as followeth (to wit) Beginning at a Chesnut near Tye River thence South eighty Degrees West seventy eight Poles to a Chesnut North sixty two Degrees West forty six Poles to a Chesnut North thirty five Degrees West one hundred and thirty five Poles to a Red Oak North five Degrees East sixty four Poles to Pointers North fifty Degrees East one hundred and thirty nine Poles to a Red Oak South sixty Degrees East sixty four Poles to Pointers [. . .] South fifty five Degrees West thirty eight Poles to a Maple South thirty nine Degrees East seventy two Poles to Pointers North forty five Degrees East ninety four Poles to Pointers South thirty nine Degrees East sixty two Poles to a Hickory South five Degrees West one hundred and ninety six Poles to Pointers North eighty five Degrees West twenty nine Poles to a Spanish Oak North seventy six Degrees West fifty Poles to the first Station. With all &c. To have hold &c. To be held &c. Yielding & Paying &c. Provided &c. In Witness &c.
