Edmund Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all To whom these presents Shall Come Greeting Know ye that in Consideration of the ancient Compositions of one pound five Shillings Sterling paid by Thomas Jefferson Esquire Into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is Granted by the Said Commonwealth unto the said Thomas Jefferson Esquire a Certain Tract or Parcel of Land Containing Two hundred and Twenty two Acres by Survey bearing Date the Twenty Sixth day of January one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Seven lying and being in the County of Albemarle on both Sides of McGehees Road and on Waters of Buck Island Creek and Bounded as followeth To wit Beginning at a pine Thomas Piddys Corner Thence On his line South twenty two Degrees East Twenty two poles to Hendersons Branch same Course Continued one hundred and twenty poles in all one hundred and forty two poles to pointers on a Branch Thence South forty one Degrees East One hundred and fifty four poles Crossing a Branch to a pine Charles Lilburn Lewiss Corner on said Piddys line thence on Said Lewiss line South forty two degrees West One hundred and fifty One poles crossing McGehees Road and the Road from Woods quarter to Charlottesville to a pine1 said Lewiss Corner on William Reynolds line thence on said Reynolds line North forty Degrees West Two hundred and Twenty Six poles Crossing McGehees Road to a pine in Said Line thence North Six Degrees East One hundred poles to the Beginning With its Appurtenances To have and To hold the Said Tract or Parcel of Land With its Appurtenances To the Said Thomas Jefferson and his Heirs forever In Witness Whereof the said Edmund Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto ld his hand and Caused the lesser Seal of the Said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the Twelfth day of April in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Eight and of the Commonwealth the Twelfth
