With the keenest sorrow I communicate to you the following words from a letter of the Pres. of October 9th “The situation of his family is to be deplored indeed; and I am afraid they will expect what the public mind will not admitt.”

Will you be kind enough to send me a list of H. B. Trists books in your possession. The boys are too young for it to be advantageous to keep them for their use. Such as your profession demands you shall have the preference in the purchase of: the remainder I will purchase myself as mementos of my friend. I think it probable he made no w Will at New Orleans: the one he left here is in my possession but alas the provisions made in it for his family are now vain: his debts and their expences will leave nothing to distribute.
