Francis W. Gilmer to William Wirt

Dear Mr Wirt.

When I returned from albemarle the day before yesterday, I found your letter waiting me. I thank you for it, and as I shall have but a few hours to delay on the journey I shall go from Norfolk to Baltimore directly. and I hope find you there on tuesday morning, for I leave this on sunday for Norfolk. I do not know whether Cabell told you that the mission is made a great mystery by the diplomatists h who have concerted it—whatever be their motive keep the secret, keep mine too as to the fortune aforesaid, for it would set people to indelicate guessing as to the Quo modo.

I shall pass rapidly thro’ Balto and do not and wish to be incog. I fear you will be too busy for us to have our talk. Expecting to see you there, and with best wishes always

yours &c
F. W. Gilmer

P.S. I shall make my visit to you in Wasn when I return in Sepr
