Harriet Hackley to Dolley Madison

My Dear Madam,

relying on your goodness I have taken the liberty to introduce to you particularly Mrs Onis Lady of the Minister plenipotentiary & Envoy extraordinary of Spain, whose excellence I am sure will gain on you each time that you are in her company. I feel myself so much interested in her forming a favourable opinion of our Country that I have recommended her to your friendship, well aware that your amiable manners will impress her (as they must do every one,) highly in favour of our Country women. The Lady whom I have the honour to present to you has the polish of the European, added to the genuine qualities of an American, & I am happy to have it in my power to make you acquainted with by far the most charming family I have met with in this Kingdom.

I remain my dear Madam with every assurance of esteem, & respect your most sincere well wisher & admirer
