John Van Lew & Company to Arthur S. Brockenbrough

Dear Sir

We yesterday forwarded by mr Pollocks Waggon the articles as per Bill above, which We hope will answer your purpose—We found it extremely difficult to procure the right sizes of Iron, but have come as near as possible—

We are sorry to hear the Box of Glass opened, has turned out to be somewhat broken, which perhaps may have been roughly handled by the Waggoner, the young man who picked them out says they were in good order when delivered, however, We hope the other Boxes will please you better—

We understand you are [c]overing your houses with tin, if you should want that article, We have a large supply, and should be glad to furnish you—If you will want Sheet Lead in the Course of the fall, you will please let us know, that we may furnish ourselves with that article—

Your Obedt Servts
John Van Lew & Co

PS. the And Irons & Candlesticks for your own use are sent also—

RC (ViU: PP); torn at seal; endorsed by Brockenbrough: “Letter from Van Lew & Co Augt 3. 1819 respecting Iron sent by J. Pollock.”
