George G. Skipwith to John H. Cocke

My Dear Friend

I avail myself of this opportunity offered by Mr Chapman going to Bremo to write you a few lines thinking that this would probably reach you before you are on your way to Brunswick. I hope you will not think that I act in conformity with Mr Chapman’s wishes but on the contrary with what I think my interest should I once more should I endeavour to persuade you to let us remain with him. In the first place it will not remedy the evil which you are of opinion it will—that is that I should meet with as many1 inducements at one hotel as another and [. . .] as respects spirits they have been drank at every one of the hotels [. . .] as I have heard the students say. However should you determine to make us quit Mr Chapman I feel quite disposed to do so and in that case I should prefer Mr Minor’s hotel to Richardson’s. I forgot to tell you when you were here to get buy me a hat and several other articles which are of I stand in need of. you can guess at size by your own (which is near the size) but however I will send you the measure inclosed inside. I wish you also to purchase me some handkerchiefs as those I have but three at present. The University is going on very smoothly at present and the students have resumed their studies. Mr Key and Mr Long still continue to lecture. I have just recd a letter from Mamma who says the all the family are well. and that they will expect me in a few monthsAdieuyour friend & relation
