John Wayles Eppes, Jr. to Martha B. Eppes

My Dear Mama

Y[ou] dont know how much I want to see you, and my sisters, I was truly sorry to hear that Sister Mary had been very sick, but I hope by this tim, her health is entirely restored to her again. I am sorry to inform you that some body attempted to break in the house, but did not succede in the attempt. Aunt Sucky set the dog on and kept him from getting in. Give my love to Uncle Willie and all my Dear relations in Carolina and tell them I want to see them very much. Farewell1 [. . .]ll my Dear Mother and believe me to be your ever affectionate son.
